Use dolomite for liming low pH soils which are low in calcium and magnesium. Dolomitic rock is sedimentary rock originally from Northern Italy high in calcium magnesium carbonate.
- This agricultural dolomite has 21.8% calcium and 11.6% magnesium
- Rates vary from 1-10 lb/100 sq ft or 500-4,000 lb/acre) depending on soil analysis
It is not a good choice for California foothill soils which are high in magnesium. Use oystershell lime or mined limestone instead.
